Cube (2021 Japanese Film)

Cube (Japanese: CUBE 一度入ったら、最後; Romaji: Cube: Ichido Haittara, Saigo) is a 2021 Japanese psychological thriller directed by Yasuhiko Shimizu. The film is an official remake of the 1997 Canadian science fiction film Cube.

Plot

The story follows six strangers who awaken to find themselves trapped within a mysterious, interconnected series of cube-shaped rooms. The group consists of engineer Yuichi Goto (Masaki Suda), association employee Asako Kai (Anne Watanabe), freeter Shinji Ochi (Masaki Okada), middle school student Chiharu Uno (Hikaru Tashiro), mechanic Hiroshi Ide (Takumi Saito), and company executive Kazumasa Ando (Kotaro Yoshida). With no knowledge of how they arrived or the purpose of the structure, the individuals must cooperate to decipher the complex codes governing the rooms to secure their escape.

Production and Release

The film was produced by Satoko Ishida and Akiko Funatsu, with a screenplay written by Koji Tokuo. It was distributed by Shochiku and released in Japanese theaters on October 22, 2021. The production features cinematography by Toyomichi Kurita and has a total runtime of 108 minutes.
