Cruel Intern

Cruel Intern (Korean: 잔혹한 인턴; RR: Janhokhan Intern) is a South Korean television series that aired in 2023. The drama explores the professional and personal challenges faced by a woman attempting to re-enter the workforce after a seven-year career break.

Plot

Go Hae-Ra (played by Ra Mi-Ran) was once a highly successful merchandiser. After leaving her position to focus on raising her child, she finds it difficult to secure a new job. During an interview for an entry-level position at a company called Market House, she encounters Choi Ji-Won (Uhm Ji-Won), the director of the product planning team. The two women have a history, having worked together at a previous company. Choi Ji-Won, known for her charisma and ruthless approach to corporate survival, offers Go Hae-Ra an internship position with a demanding and morally complex proposition.

Production

The series was directed by Han Sang-Jae and written by Park Yeon-Kyung. It was released on the streaming platform TVING, running for 12 episodes from August 11 to September 15, 2023. The project marked a reunion for lead actresses Ra Mi-Ran and Uhm Ji-Won, who previously appeared together in the 2013 film Hope.
