Concrete Utopia (2023 Film)
Concrete Utopia is a 2023 South Korean disaster thriller film directed by Uhm Tae-Hwa. The film explores themes of social hierarchy, survival, and morality in the wake of a massive earthquake that leaves Seoul in ruins. It is based on the second part of the webcomic Yukwaehan Wangdda, titled Yukwaehan Yiwoot, written by Kim Soong-Nyoong.

Plot
Following a catastrophic earthquake that levels Seoul, the Hwanggoong Apartment complex remains the only structure left standing. As survivors from the surrounding area converge on the building, the residents must decide how to manage resources and maintain order. Young-Tak (Lee Byung-Hun) emerges as a temporary leader, organizing the residents to protect their sanctuary from outsiders. He is assisted by Min-Sung (Park Seo-Jun), a former public official, while Min-Sung's wife, Myeong-Hwa (Park Bo-Young), a nurse, focuses on providing medical care to the injured.

The film was directed by Uhm Tae-Hwa, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Lee Shin-Ji. It was distributed by Lotte Entertainment and released in South Korea on August 9, 2023. The cinematography was handled by Joe Hyung-Rae.
Reception and Awards
Concrete Utopia received recognition at several major South Korean film ceremonies in 2023. At the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards, the film won Best Director for Uhm Tae-Hwa and Best Actor for Lee Byung-Hun. At the 59th Daejong Film Awards, it received honors including Best Film, Best Actor (Lee Byung-Hun), Best Supporting Actress (Kim Sun-Young), and awards for Art Design, Lighting, and Technical achievement.
