The drama is based on the novel Chu Wataru Kyoshitsu written by Shin Iyohara, which was published by Bungeishunju on October 20, 2023. The narrative is inspired by the real-life experiences of an alternative high school science class in Osaka that participated in a scientific research event in 2017. The series was directed by Hisatake Kikkawa, Takashi Isshiki, and Kazunori Yamashita, with a screenplay by Kaori Sawai.
Plot
The story is set at an alternative high school located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, where students from diverse age groups and backgrounds pursue their education. The student body includes individuals such as 21-year-old Gakuto Yanagida, 43-year-old Angela Koshikawa, 16-year-old Kasumi Natori, and 76-year-old Shozo Nagamine. The arrival of a mysterious science teacher named Kanae Fujitake, portrayed by Masataka Kubota, marks a turning point for the school. Under his guidance, the science club embarks on an ambitious project to recreate a "Mars crater" for an academic conference presentation, navigating numerous personal and academic challenges along the way.
