Chocolate (2019 South Korean Television Series)
Chocolate is a South Korean television series that aired on JTBC from November 29, 2019, to January 18, 2020. The drama consists of 16 episodes and follows the intersecting lives of a neurosurgeon and a chef who reunite at a hospice ward.
Production
The series was directed by Lee Hyeong-Min and written by Lee Kyoung-Hee. This project marked a reunion for the director and screenwriter, who previously collaborated on the 2004 KBS2 drama series Sorry, I Love You. The show occupied the Friday and Saturday 23:00 time slot on JTBC, following My Country: The New Age and preceding Itaewon Class.
Plot
Lee Kang, played by Yoon Kye-Sang, is a neurosurgeon who grew up in a small seaside town with aspirations of becoming a cook. Despite his cold exterior, he possesses a warm heart. Moon Cha-Young, portrayed by Ha Ji-Won, is a chef who was inspired by a childhood encounter with Lee Kang, during which he provided her with a meal at a seaside restaurant. Their paths cross again years later at a hospice facility.
Cast and Cameos
The series features a large ensemble cast, including Jang Seung-Jo, Yoo Teo, and Min Jin-Woong. Notable cameo appearances include singer-actress Yu Bin, who appears from episode 11 as O Jeong-Bok and contributed the track "Special" to the series' original soundtrack. Additionally, actress Lina makes a cameo in the final episode; she is married to cast member Jang Seung-Jo in real life.
