Chief Detective 1958
Chief Detective 1958 is a South Korean television drama series that aired on MBC in 2024. The series serves as a prequel to the long-running and influential police procedural Chief Inspector, which originally broadcast from 1971 to 1989. The narrative explores the early career of the character Park Yeong-Han, who was famously portrayed by Choi Bul-Am in the original series.

Premise
Set in a period preceding the events of the original Chief Inspector, the story follows Park Yeong-Han (played by Lee Je-Hoon), a young and idealistic detective from Hwangcheon. Upon arriving in Seoul, he is confronted with the harsh realities of a society where human dignity is frequently violated. He joins the Jongnam Police Station, where he forms a team with fellow detectives to combat crime and corruption.
Production
The series was directed by Kim Sung-Hoon and written by Kim Young-Shin. During its development, the project was known by the working title Soosabanjang 1963. It premiered on April 19, 2024, and concluded its 10-episode run on May 18, 2024, airing in the Friday and Saturday 21:50 time slot on MBC.
