Cherry Tomato (2008 Film)

Cherry Tomato (Korean: 방울토마토; RR: Bangul Tomato) is a 2008 South Korean drama film directed by Jung Young-Bae. The film explores themes of poverty and familial struggle through the lives of an elderly man and his young granddaughter.

Plot

The story follows Park-Goo, played by Shin Goo, who struggles to provide for his granddaughter, Da-Sung (Kim Hyang-Gi), by collecting recyclables. Their precarious existence is further threatened when Park-Goo's son is released from prison and steals his father's meager savings. Compounding their misfortune, the handcart Park-Goo uses for his work is destroyed by construction workers. In a desperate attempt to feed his hungry granddaughter, Park-Goo attempts to steal meat from the home of a construction company executive. Unbeknownst to him, the meat has been poisoned by a disgruntled housekeeper.

Production

The film was directed by Jung Young-Bae, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kim Sung. It was produced by Park Jung-Yang and Kim Hyoung-Suk. The film features cinematography by Park Kyoung-Won and was distributed by Cinema Service. It has a runtime of 116 minutes.
