Byeonsan (2018 Film)

Byeonsan (also known as Sunset in My Hometown) is a 2018 South Korean drama film directed by Lee Joon-ik. The film explores themes of personal growth, family reconciliation, and the intersection of past and present through the lens of a struggling musician.

Plot

The story centers on Hak-Soo (Park Jeong-Min), an aspiring but largely unsuccessful rapper living in Seoul. His life is interrupted when he receives an unexpected phone call that forces him to return to his hometown of Byeonsan. Upon his arrival, he encounters Sun-Mi (Kim Go-Eun), a former elementary school classmate, and is compelled to confront the complicated relationships and memories he left behind.

Production

The film was directed by Lee Joon-ik with a screenplay written by Kim Se-Kyum. Principal photography commenced on September 11, 2017, in the Hongik University area of Seoul. Production concluded on November 18, 2017, in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. The film was distributed by Megabox Plus M and released in South Korea on July 4, 2018.
