Bulsae 2020

Bulsae 2020 (Korean: 불새 2020), also known as Phoenix 2020, is a South Korean television drama series that aired on the SBS network. The series ran for 120 episodes from October 26, 2020, to April 9, 2021, occupying the weekday 08:40–09:10 time slot. It is a remake of the 2004 MBC drama series Phoenix.

Plot

The story follows Lee Ji-Eun (played by Hong Soo-A), the daughter of a wealthy chaebol family. She meets Jang Se-Hoon (Lee Jae-Woo), a furniture workshop owner from a modest background. Despite their socioeconomic differences, the two fall in love and marry. Their relationship faces significant strain due to interference from Ji-Eun's father and personal tragedies, including a miscarriage, eventually leading to their separation.

Ten years later, their circumstances have reversed. Ji-Eun struggles to support her family while working as a housemaid, burdened by her late father's debts. Meanwhile, Se-Hoon returns to South Korea as a successful businessman under the name William Jang, leading a U.S.-based cosmetics company.

Production

The series was directed by Lee Hyeon-Jik and written by Lee Yoo-Jin. It replaced the drama Mom Has an Affair in its time slot and was succeeded by Amor Fati on April 12, 2021.
