Breathless (2009 South Korean Film)
Breathless (Korean: 똥파리; RR: Ddongpari) is a 2009 South Korean independent drama film written, directed by, and starring Yang Ik-June. The film is noted for its raw depiction of cycles of violence and trauma within a domestic and social context.

Plot
The story centers on Sang-Hoon (Yang Ik-June), a low-level debt collector who lives a life defined by aggression and unresolved rage stemming from an abusive childhood. His primary method of navigating his environment is through physical violence, which he directs toward friends, family, and strangers alike.
The narrative shifts when Sang-Hoon encounters a high-school student named Yeon-Hee (Kim Kkobbi) on the street. After an initial violent confrontation, the two begin an unlikely and complex relationship that serves as the emotional core of the film.
Production and Title
The original Korean title, Ddongpari, translates literally to "shit fly," a term used to describe a lowly insect that hovers around excrement, serving as a metaphor for the protagonist's social standing and environment. The film was produced by Jang Seong-Jin and features cinematography by Yun Jong-Ho.

Reception and Legacy
Breathless premiered at the 13th Pusan International Film Festival in October 2008. Upon its theatrical release in South Korea on April 16, 2009, it sold 122,976 tickets during its domestic run. For several years, it held the record for the best-selling fictional independent film in South Korea, a record it maintained until the 2013 release of the film Jiseul.
