Plot

In 1808, investigator Won-gyu is dispatched to a secluded island to investigate an arson case. Upon arrival, he discovers that the community is suffering from a series of methodical and sadistic murders. As the death toll rises, Won-gyu suspects the crimes are connected to the execution of a paper mill owner seven years prior, who was killed for his association with Catholicism. While the local residents attribute the violence to supernatural forces, the rational-minded investigator struggles to uncover the human motivations behind the killings.
