Black House (2007 Film)

Black House (Korean: 검은집; RR: Geomeun Jip) is a 2007 South Korean horror-thriller film directed by Shin Tae-ra. The film is based on the 1997 novel Kuroi ie by Japanese author Yusuke Kishi, which won the Grand Prize at the 4th Japan Horror Story Awards.

Plot

The story follows Jeon Jun-oh (played by Hwang Jung-min), a newly hired insurance agent. His professional life takes a disturbing turn when he receives an inquiry regarding whether a life insurance policy covers suicide. Shortly thereafter, he is summoned to the home of a policyholder, Park Chung-bae (Kang Shin-il). Upon arriving, Jun-oh discovers the body of the man's son, who has apparently died by suicide.

Despite the suspicious circumstances, the father aggressively demands the insurance payout. When Jun-oh insists on waiting for the official coroner's report, the situation escalates, leading to a series of unsettling events that threaten Jun-oh's safety and sanity.

Production and Release

Produced and distributed by CJ Entertainment, Black House was released in South Korea on June 20, 2007. The film has a runtime of 103 minutes. It was screened at the 10th Udine Far East Film Festival in 2008.
