Black Dawn (2012 Film)

Black Dawn (Japanese: 外事警察, Gaiji Keisatsu) is a 2012 Japanese suspense-thriller film directed by Kentaro Horikirizono. The film serves as a cinematic expansion of the 2009 television series Anti-Terrorism Investigators (Gaiji Keisatsu), which aired on NHK.

Plot

Set in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake in eastern Japan, the narrative follows the Japanese government as it receives intelligence from the CIA regarding the smuggling of uranium into the country. Kenji Sumimoto, played by Atsuro Watabe, leads a team of anti-terrorism investigators tasked with uncovering the source of the threat. The investigation centers on the wife of a company president suspected of acting as a contact for terrorists. The team is joined by an undercover Korean police officer, portrayed by Kim Kang-Woo, to assist in the operation.

Production and Release

The film was written by Ryota Kosawa and produced by Kei Kurube and Tatsuya Iwakura. It held its world premiere on May 23, 2012, at the Japan Filmfest Hamburg. The film was released theatrically in Japan on June 2, 2012, and later in South Korea on November 18, 2012. It was distributed by Toei Company.
