Big Match (2014 Film)

Big Match (Korean: 빅매치; RR: Bigmaechi) is a 2014 South Korean action film directed by Choi Ho. The film follows the story of a martial arts athlete who is forced to participate in a dangerous, high-stakes game orchestrated by a criminal mastermind.

Plot

Choi Ik-ho, a former martial arts star known for his physical prowess and humor, finds himself framed for a murder he did not commit. He soon discovers that he is a pawn in a elaborate game designed by Ace, a brilliant but sadistic game planner who caters to the whims of the wealthy elite. Ace utilizes advanced technology to transform the city into a massive, real-life game board. To save his brother, Ik-ho must navigate this lethal environment and confront Ace.

Production

The film was directed by Choi Ho, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Shim Bo-kyoung and Kim Soo-kyung. Principal photography for Big Match began on December 27, 2013, and concluded on May 9, 2014.

Release

Big Match was released in South Korea on November 26, 2014. The film was later screened at the 19th Fantasia Film Festival in 2015, where it held its Canadian premiere.
