Beautiful Sunday (2007 Film)

Beautiful Sunday (Korean: 뷰티풀 선데이) is a South Korean thriller film released on March 29, 2007. The film was directed and written by Jin Kwang-kyo. It features a narrative centered on the intersecting lives of a detective and a man harboring a dark secret.

Plot

The story follows Min-woo (played by Namkoong Min), a man preparing for his civil service examination. His life takes a dark turn when he commits a violent assault against a woman named Soo-yeon (Wang Ji-hye). Years later, unaware of his past actions, Soo-yeon marries Min-woo. The conflict escalates when she discovers the truth about the assault, leading to a confrontation that leaves her in a vegetative state.

Parallel to this, the film tracks Detective Kang (Park Yong-woo), who previously arrested a drug dealer named Jo Sang-tae based on information provided by a gangster named Lee Ki-chul. Years after Jo's release from prison, he attempts to blackmail the detective, revealing a complex connection between the detective's past and Min-woo's present.

Production and Release

Beautiful Sunday was produced by Suk Myung-hong, Choi Yoon, and Na Yong-kuk. The cinematography was handled by Lee Ki-won, with action sequences directed by Won Jin. The film was distributed by Showbox and has a total runtime of 117 minutes. It received an international screening at the 12th Fantasia Film Festival in 2008.
