Beautiful Mind (Korean: 뷰티풀 마인드) is a South Korean medical drama series that aired on KBS2 from June 20 to August 2, 2016. The series was directed by Mo Wan-il and written by Kim Tae-hee. Originally developed under the working title Dr. Frankenstein, the show explores themes of human connection and empathy within a clinical setting.
Plot
The story follows Lee Young-o, a highly skilled neurosurgeon who lacks the ability to feel empathy for others. His life and professional conduct are challenged when he becomes entangled in a series of mysterious patient deaths at his hospital. Through his interactions with others, particularly Gye Jin-sung, he begins to confront his own emotional limitations and experiences a personal transformation.
Production
The series was broadcast in the Monday and Tuesday 22:00 time slot on KBS2. It replaced Becky's Back and was followed by Love in the Moonlight. During the casting process, the lead role was offered to actors Yoo Ah-in and Lee Jong-suk, both of whom declined. The drama was originally slated for a 16-episode run, but the network shortened the series to 14 episodes citing low viewership ratings.
