The Battle of Jangsari (2019 Film)

The Battle of Jangsari (Korean: 장사리: 잊혀진 영웅들; lit. Jangsari: Forgotten Heroes) is a 2019 South Korean war film directed by Kwak Kyung-Taek and Kim Tae-Hoon. The film dramatizes the historical Battle of Jangsari, which occurred during the Korean War.

Plot

The narrative follows a guerrilla unit led by Captain Lee Myung-Joon (played by Kim Myung-Min) and a group of 772 student soldiers, including the character Choi Sung-Pil (played by Minho). The unit is tasked with a diversionary mission at Jangsari in Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province. Their objective is to deceive North Korean forces, creating the impression of a major invasion to facilitate the actual landing at Incheon scheduled for the following day. The student soldiers, with an average age of 17 and minimal training, face significant combat challenges upon landing.

Production

The film is based on the historical events of September 14–15, 1950. Principal photography for the production commenced on October 13, 2018, and concluded on January 12, 2019. The film was distributed by Warner Bros. Korea.
