Ashita no Joe (2011 Film)
Ashita no Joe is a 2011 Japanese sports drama film directed by Fumihiko Sori. The movie is a live-action adaptation of the influential boxing manga series of the same name, originally written by Asao Takamori and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba, which began serialization in 1968.

Plot
Set in the 1960s, the story follows Joe Yabuki (Tomohisa Yamashita), a young man living in a impoverished area. His raw talent for fighting is discovered by Danpei Tange (Teruyuki Kagawa), a former boxer struggling with alcoholism. After a series of events leads to his incarceration in a youth detention center, Joe encounters Toru Rikiishi (Yusuke Iseya), a professional boxer of significant skill. Their rivalry begins in the detention center and continues after their release, eventually culminating in a high-stakes match in the professional ring.
Production
The film was produced by TBS and distributed by Toho. Principal photography commenced on March 30, 2010, and concluded in early June 2010. To prepare for his role as the protagonist, actor Tomohisa Yamashita underwent a rigorous training regimen starting one month before filming, which included intensive boxing practice, physical conditioning, and a specialized diet.

Reception and Awards
The film was screened at several international film festivals, including the 12th Jeonju International Film Festival and the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2011. Yusuke Iseya received the Best Supporting Actor award at the 54th Blue Ribbon Awards in 2012 for his performance as Toru Rikiishi.
