Ari Ari the Korean Cinema (Korean: 영화판; RR: Younghwapan) is a 2012 South Korean documentary film directed by Heo Chul. The film provides an examination of the South Korean film industry, focusing on the creative challenges faced by filmmakers and the professional identities of actors and actresses.

Background and Production

The project originated from a 2009 collaboration between director Chung Ji-Young and actress Yoon Jin-Seo. The documentary was conceived to explore the systemic difficulties and production processes inherent in Korean filmmaking. Chung Ji-Young sought to challenge perceptions regarding the limitations faced by veteran directors, while Yoon Jin-Seo explored her own professional identity within the industry. The film was produced by Aura Pictures and released in South Korea on December 6, 2012.

Festival Appearances

Following its domestic release, Ari Ari the Korean Cinema was screened at international events, including the 8th Korean Film Festival in Paris in 2013, where it was presented in the Landscape section.
