Arahan (2004 Film)

Arahan (Korean: 아라한 장풍 대작전) is a 2004 South Korean action-fantasy film directed by Ryoo Seung-wan. The film is known for its blend of traditional martial arts tropes with modern urban comedy, focusing on a police officer who discovers hidden supernatural powers.

Plot

The story follows Sang-hwan, a well-meaning but timid police officer who struggles to assert himself against criminals. His life changes when he is recruited by a group of martial arts masters who recognize his latent potential. As he undergoes rigorous training to harness his inner energy, he must prepare to face Heuk-woon, an ancient evil entity that has been unleashed upon the modern world. Sang-hwan eventually finds himself tasked with the responsibility of protecting humanity from this threat.

Production and Release

Arahan was released in South Korea on April 30, 2004. The film was directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, who also contributed to the screenplay. It was distributed by Cinema Service and has a runtime of 114 minutes. The film has been featured in various international events, including the 2011 London Korean Film Festival and the 2013 New York Asian Film Festival.
