Antarctic Journal (2005 film)
Antarctic Journal (Korean: 남극일기; RR: Namgeuk-ilgi) is a 2005 South Korean horror-mystery film directed by Yim Pil-sung. The screenplay was co-written by Yim Pil-sung and Bong Joon-ho. The film follows a South Korean expedition team as they attempt to reach the "Point of Inaccessibility" in Antarctica without external supplies.

Plot
The story centers on a six-member expedition led by Captain Choi Do-hyung (Song Kang-ho). As the team traverses the Antarctic continent, they discover a journal belonging to a British expedition from 80 years prior. Kim Min-jae (Yoo Ji-tae), the youngest member of the team, notices that the sketches within the journal bear a striking resemblance to the current expedition members. Following the discovery, the team experiences a series of inexplicable and increasingly dangerous phenomena, while Captain Choi becomes obsessively fixated on reaching their destination despite the deteriorating conditions.

Production
To prepare for their roles, lead actors Song Kang-ho, Yoo Ji-tae, and Park Hee-soon underwent physical training under the guidance of professional mountain climber Park Young-suk. Park Young-suk later disappeared in the Annapurna section of the Himalayas on October 18, 2011, following an avalanche. His body was never recovered, and a memorial service was held in South Korea on November 3, 2011.
