Alienoid (2022 Film)

Alienoid (Korean: 외계+인 1부; RR: Wegye+In 1Bu) is a 2022 South Korean science fiction action-fantasy film written and directed by Choi Dong-hoon. The film is the first installment of a two-part project, with its conclusion, Alienoid: Part 2, released in 2024.

Plot

The narrative weaves together two distinct timelines. During the Goryeo dynasty, a group of Taoists seeks to acquire a mysterious, legendary sword. Simultaneously, in the present day, extraterrestrial entities appear on Earth. The story centers on the emergence of a time portal that connects these two eras, resulting in a series of chaotic events as characters from both periods interact.

Production

The film was directed and written by Choi Dong-hoon. Principal photography for the project spanned 13 months, commencing on March 29, 2020, and concluding on April 19, 2021.

At the 58th Daejong Film Awards held on December 9, 2022, the film received recognition for its production quality, winning the Best Art Design award (Ryu Sung-hee and Lee Ha-joon) and the Best Technical Award (Jegal Seung).
