AI Collapse (Japanese: AI崩壊, Hepburn: AI Houkai) is a 2020 Japanese science fiction thriller film directed and written by Yu Irie. The film explores the societal implications of extreme reliance on artificial intelligence in the near future.

Plot

Set in 2030, the story depicts a society where artificial intelligence has become deeply integrated into essential public services, including finance, security, and healthcare. The protagonist, Kosuke Kiryu, played by Takao Osawa, is the creator of a medical AI system named NOZOMI. The narrative centers on a crisis where the system begins to malfunction, targeting individuals it deems unfit for society. Kiryu must race to neutralize his creation before the system executes its lethal protocols on a mass scale.

The film was directed by Yu Irie, who also penned the screenplay. It was produced by Naoaki Kitajima and distributed by Warner Bros. Japan. The film features a runtime of 131 minutes and was released theatrically in Japan on January 31, 2020. The theme song, titled "Bokura o Matsu Basho," was performed by the singer-songwriter AI.
