A Blue Mouthed Face (Korean: 파란입이 달린 얼굴; RR: Paranibi Dalrin Eolgul) is a South Korean independent drama film written and directed by Kim Soo-Jung. The film explores themes of familial burden, personal survival, and the search for independence.

Plot

The narrative centers on Seo-Young (played by Jang Liu), a woman who carries the heavy responsibility of supporting her family, which includes her mother and her brother, who has a physical disability. The pressure of her circumstances leads to a moment of crisis when she expresses a desire for her mother to disappear. Seeking a change in her life, Seo-Young secures employment with the assistance of a monk. While she experiences a brief period of stability and relative happiness, she eventually realizes that she must navigate her path toward survival independently.

Production and Release

The film was produced by Jang Se-Kyung, with cinematography by Kim Yoon-Sung. It held its world premiere in December 2015 at the Seoul Independent Film Festival before receiving a theatrical release in South Korea on January 18, 2018. The film has a runtime of 111 minutes.
