52nd Baeksang Arts Awards (2016)

The 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony took place on June 3, 2016, in Seoul, South Korea. Organized by IS PLUS Corp., the event recognized excellence in the South Korean film and television industries. The ceremony is one of the most prestigious honors in the country, celebrating achievements across various categories including acting, directing, and screenwriting.

Film Category Highlights

The Grand Prize (Daesang) for film was awarded to director Lee Joon-ik for his work on Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet and The Throne. The award for Best Film went to Assassination. Ryoo Seung-wan received the Best Director award for the action film Veteran.

In the acting categories, Lee Byung-hun was named Best Actor for his performance in Inside Men, while Jeon Do-yeon won Best Actress for her role in The Shameless. Supporting acting honors were given to Lee Kyoung-young for The Unfair and Ra Mi-ran for The Himalayas.

New Talent and Screenwriting

The ceremony also recognized emerging talent in the industry. Han Jun-hee was awarded Best New Director for Coin Locker Girl. Park Jeong-min received the Best New Actor award for Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, and Park So-dam was honored as Best New Actress for her performance in The Priests. The Best Screenplay award was presented to Ahn Gooc-jin for Alice In Earnestland.

Popularity Awards

The event also featured popularity awards based on public voting. Do Kyung-soo was recognized as the Most Popular Actor for his role in Unforgettable, and Bae Suzy was named the Most Popular Actress for her work in The Sound of a Flower.
