40th Blue Dragon Film Awards

The 40th Blue Dragon Film Awards ceremony was held on November 21, 2019, in Seoul, South Korea. Organized by the newspaper Sports Chosun, the event recognized outstanding achievements in the South Korean film industry throughout the year. The ceremony was hosted by actors Kim Hye-soo and Yoo Yeon-seok.

Major Awards

The film Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho, was the most prominent winner of the evening, securing the award for Best Film. Bong Joon-ho also received the award for Best Director for his work on the project.

In the acting categories, Jung Woo-sung was awarded Best Actor for his performance in Innocent Witness, while Cho Yeo-jeong won Best Actress for her role in Parasite. Supporting roles were recognized with awards for Jo Woo-jin in Default (Best Supporting Actor) and Lee Jung-eun in Parasite (Best Supporting Actress).

New Talent and Technical Achievements

The ceremony also highlighted emerging talent in the industry. Lee Sang-geun was named Best New Director for Exit. The Best New Actor award went to Park Hae-soo for By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture, and Kim Hye-jun won Best New Actress for Another Child. The award for Best Screenplay was presented to Kim Bo-ra for House of Hummingbird. Technical excellence was recognized in the category of Best Cinematography & Lighting, which was awarded to Kim Ji-yong and Jo Kyu-young for their work on Swing Kids.

Popularity Awards

The Popularity Award, determined by audience interest, was presented to four actors: Lee Kwang-soo, Lee Ha-nee, Park Hyung-sik, and Lim Yoon-a.
