38 Task Force (Korean: 38사기동대; RR: 38sagidongdae) is a South Korean crime drama television series that aired on the cable network OCN in 2016. The series explores the intersection of law enforcement and criminal ingenuity, focusing on the efforts of a government official to recover significant unpaid taxes from wealthy individuals who evade their financial obligations.

Premise

The narrative centers on Baek Sung-il, a dedicated but frustrated tax collection chief at Seoul City Hall. Facing systemic corruption and the inability to collect massive tax debts from wealthy evaders, he forms an unconventional partnership with a skilled con man named Yang Jung-do. Together, they employ elaborate schemes and deception to extract unpaid taxes from those who exploit legal loopholes to avoid their duties.

Production and Broadcast

The series was directed by Kim Jung-min and Han Dong-hwa, with a screenplay written by Han Jung-hoon. It consisted of 16 episodes and was broadcast on OCN every Friday and Saturday at 23:00. The series premiered on June 17, 2016, and concluded on August 6, 2016. It occupied the network's Friday and Saturday time slot, succeeding Vampire Detective and preceding the series Voice, which began airing in January 2017.
