16th Busan International Film Festival (2011)
The 16th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) took place from October 6 to October 14, 2011, in Busan, South Korea. This edition was historically significant as it was the first to be held under the name "Busan International Film Festival," following the official change from the previous romanization, "Pusan International Film Festival."
New Currents Jury
The New Currents section, which highlights emerging Asian directors, was judged by a panel of international film industry professionals. The jury members for the 2011 edition included:

- New Currents Award: Shared by Mourning (directed by Morteza Farshbaf, India) and Nino (directed by Loy Arcenas, Philippines).
- Flash Forward Award: LA-BAS - A Criminal Education (directed by Guido Lombardi, Italy).
- BIFF Mecenat Award: Shared by Sea of Butterfly (Park Bae-Il, South Korea) and Shoji & Takao (Yoko Ide, Japan).
- FIPRESCI Award: Mourning (Morteza Farshbaf, India).
- NETPAC Award: The King of the Pigs (Yeon Sang-Ho, South Korea).
- Asian Filmmaker of the Year: Tsui Hark.
